Questions put to the Governor.

1. What is the present volume of notes in circulation

What security is held for note issue and in what form?

Distinguish between silver coin and bullion and if

possible between gold and silver securities.

2. How much of issue is in dollar notes?

3. Are silver dollars accepted freely (a) in ordinary

commercial transactions (b) by the banks, (c) by

Government as exactly equivalent to notes?

4.

What is the estimated total of (a) legal tender

silver dollars (b) subsidiary coinage (1) held as

security for note issue (ii) in circulation (iii) held

by the Banks, distinguishing if possible between

Mexican and British Trade dollar?

5. Are any more silver dollars known to be on order

or in transit from London or Bombay mints?

6.

Can any indication be given of total liabilities

on account of deposit and current accounts of all

Banks in Hong Kong including non-note-issuing banks?

and is analysis possible of assets held to secure

them?

If available, should like this information

for five years back. Any particulars which banks

may be willing to disclose will be welcome.
